CCJA's core vocal program, the Jazz Arts Voices, takes a deep dive into the nuance, style, and joy of vocal jazz. Students sing in a mixed ensemble of young men and young women, working in both an a capella setting and with a top-notch rhythm section.

General Information

  • Group of 6-8 singers 

  • Open to high school students

  • Begins the week of 1/20 and runs for 10 weeks (off the week of 3/16)

  • $340, Payable in 2 installments (need based scholarships available upon request)

  • Rehearsals at Kent Denver, Schedule TBA (based on availability of members)

  • By Audition Only

  • 2 Performances, including a concert with The Sharp Five

  • Learn about arranging and creating charts for vocal groups

  • Work on improvisation 

  • Clinics with The Sharp Five  

Audition Information 

Audition Materials

  • Sing your part (SATB) on "Time After Time" arranged by Kerry Marsh from the beginning through measure 27 (with provided track)

  • Improvise one-two choruses of a blues in your preferred key Bb or F (with linked backing tracks)

  • Sing the head in of a tune of your choosing from the standard jazz repertoire (with backing track (iReal Pro or YouTube)
