SMALL GROUP PROGRAM
CCJA's core program groups students ages 11-18 from all over the metro area into small (7-9 piece) jazz ensembles, directed by professional musician mentors. These mentors are all accomplished professional musicians, most of whom also teach at the collegiate level and they have a wealth of experience to share with students!
These ensembles meet weekly in 10-week sessions to rehearse, play, and perform together as they study jazz improvisation, technique, style, theory, and history. Students are encouraged to express themselves improvisationally and through composing/arranging for their groups. Over the past twenty years, the program has attracted incredible young players who have become integral musicians in their respective school groups, members of the Colorado All-State Jazz Band, and recipients of impressive scholarships to major collegiate music programs across the country. Students in CCJA connect with other like-minded players in the area while honing their craft, making music, and having fun. At the end of each session, CCJA students perform for the public at area jazz venues.
CCJA Small Groups meet in 5 locations across the Front Range! See below to register for Fall 2019's session beginning on August 20 (Boulder & Fort Collins) and August 27 (Denver, Kent Denver & Highlands Ranch)
Tuition for the 10-week session is $340, made payable in two payments of $170.
Note: in order to register for a CCJA Small Group, we'll have you become a member. Membership begins at just $15/year, and includes many perks. More information about CCJA Membership here. Priority deadline for Rhythm Section players (drums, bass, guitar, piano) is two weeks before each session starts (see below for specific dates and info). If, after this point, we have more registrants than spots available on these instruments, we will have to hold auditions.
WINTER '19-'20 SESSION
Priority Registration for rhythm section players (piano, bass, drums, guitar) ENDS on Tuesday, October 22 (11:59pm) for Boulder & Fort Collins Groups and Tuesday, October 29 (11:59pm) for Denver & Highlands Ranch Groups. If at this point, we have more registrants than spots available, we will notify you about submitting auditions. When auditions are necessary, we are unable to take further registrants AFTER the priority registration deadline.
*Note: CCJA is a non-profit organization and though we sustain our programming partially through donations, we rely on program fees to keep our organization up and running. Because of this, we will not be able to issue refunds for the Small Group Program once the program is in session. Thanks for understanding!
