Mission: CCJA provides Colorado youth unique opportunities for the study and performance of jazz, thereby offering them the ability to explore their creativity and voices, both individually and collectively. Under the mentorship of professional jazz musicians, CCJA helps advance and preserve the art form of jazz, and positively impacts the larger community.

"...the intelligent, responsible pursuit of things that really matter - to the spirit, to the soul - is the best and most reliable path to genuine success in the world." -Bill Strickland

Small Group Registration

Registration for Spring session has begun though, and continues through January 31. (There are a few spots still open now, email if you're interested in registering.) The first rehearsal for the new session will be on February 7, and rehearsals continue through April 10, except for March 27. The Spring concert (Jazz-O-Rama) will be on April 17.

If you've already been in a CCJA group, just fill out the registration form for returning students and remit at least half of the program fees.
(You can remit online here with a credit card, but there is a 2-3% processing fee. You can also mail a check to CCJA, 4505 W 36th Ave. Denver, CO 80212.)

If you are new to CCJA, and are interested in the small group program, click here,
where you will find more information as well as an application form.

At the end of the registration period, if it turns out that there are more students than openings for any rhythm section instrument, we will hold auditions. If you're a rhythm section player,
and you register for fall session, we'll let you know whether or not auditions will be necessary.

What the critics have to say:

"...there's nothing here I don't enjoy -- even the flute solos.(Tom Hull - Village Voice)

"When I hear such positive music, as displayed on "Fourteen Channels", I refuse to believe that jazz is dying." (CultureCreature)

"this album is an unexpected surprise and a recording worth spinning often. Kudos to the young cats at CCJA; if this is an indication of the state of jazz today, then, I can only surmise, despite the bad press, jazz has a bright future..." (ejazznews.com)

"This is simply one ripping good big band date that will have you enchanted throughout. Well done." (Midwest Record)

"These 17 young men and women are skilled musicians worthy of notice. And their recording gives hope that the art of jazz is not entirely lost." (www.smooth-jazz.de)

Charted #41 on JazzWeek!

Congrats to Cameron Hicks for winning the 2010 Downbeat award for Best College Orginial Song for his tune "Antics"...track #5 on the CD!

Last summer, 16 CCJA students & alumni spent a week recording an album, learning about how to edit, mix, and master a recording sesssion, and having classes on how to promote a record and create a publishing company. After months of mixing, mastering, finalizing artwork, and getting all the pieces put together, we are proud to announce that the album is available for order now! Sponsors Needed!

It is important to our mission to not turn students away due to financial challenges. Therefore, we have a need-based scholarship program that assists with tuition for all of our programs. We are in need of sponsors for that fund, so if you know any individuals or businesses that would like to explore donation/marketing sponsorship opportunities, please let us know!!!
